ACES Help Celebrate the 25th Anniversary of MCC of Corpus Christi
On Saturday, February 17th, in the ballroom of the Holiday Inn Emerald Beach on Corpus Christi’s Ocean Drive, our ACES put on a dynamite 40 minute set of eclectic music from the sublime When I Fall in Love, and inspiring Sing Me to Heaven and Make Them Hear You through country classics like Thank God I’m a Country Boy, the thought provoking anthem I Ain’t Afraid, to the downright ridiculous. (Jess did his rendition of It’s Hard to be Humble.)
ACMC Artistic Diretor to resign By Sam Sanchez QSanAntonio.com
Dr. Joey Martin, artistic director of the Alamo City Men’s Chorale, announced on February 6 that he is resigning at the end of this season’s performances in June. Martin cited a heavy workload and his increasing responsibilities as Associate Professor of Music at Texas State University as the reasons for his departure.
This is Martin’s third season as Artistic Director of the Chorale, which this year is celebrating its 20th year of performances. As a musician regarded for his diverse musical interests, he has been credited with shaping the Chorale and its concerts to provide inventive and stimulating programming. There are two more ACMC concerts left this season, "Requiem" which will be performed on March 24 and 25, and "HIStory- A Look at Equality, Music and Our Pride" on June 23.
At Texas State University, Martin’s professorship includes being Director of Choral Activities and Coordinator of Vocal Studies. He teaches graduate courses in choral conducting, choral literature and vocal pedagogy. He also serves as music director for the historic First Protestant Church in New Braunfels and as pianist for the New Young Artists with the Victoria Bach Festival. His busy schedule is filled with numerous engagements as guest conductor and clinician throughout the U.S. and Europe.
"Our time together these last three years has filled my life with music, family, and what I'm certain will be -- life long friends," says Martin. "Thank you for your gracious support and belief in my artistic vision. I look forward to a long association with the Alamo City Men's Chorale."
"We as a organization are losing more than a artistic director and a conductor, were losing a dear friend and a mentor," said Jess McDowell a member of the ACMC Board. "Joey has moved us to a new level of musicianship and filling his shoes will be difficult as he set a very high precedent in performance standards."
