The Requiem Concert

Maurice Durufle’s Requiem and Quatre Motets sur des Themes Gregoriens

The award-winning voices of Texas State University Chorale and the Austin Women’s Chorus Tapestry will join the Alamo City Men’s Chorale for a riveting performance of Maurice Durufle’s Requiem. This 20th Century Masterpiece has been performed worldwide moving audience to tears because of its beauty.

“I have done my best to reconcile, as far as possible, the Gregorian rhythms
— that which has been fixed by the Benedictines of Solesmes
— with the demands of modern meters.” — Duruflé

Although the Second World War had ended when Requiem was first performed in 1947, much of France was left in rubble, reduced to a second-rate land physically, economically, politically, and morally. Sadly today, great parallels exist as the dream of equal rights for all humans remain vulnerable to the same destruction as portrayed in the Requiem. Join us for profound performance that promises to be one you won’t soon forget.

HIStory- A look at equality, music and our pride.

The Alamo City Men’s Chorale is proud to welcome its brothers from north of the Guadalupe River, the Capital City Men’s Chorus of Austin. In the first half of the show we’ll explore the quest for human rights all over the world. Then, the performance shifts to the San Antonio premier of Robert Seeley’s NakedMan, a critically acclaimed song cycle of dramatically impassioned expression. Through NakedMan, Seeley, the composer in residence for the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus, so accurately and genuinely captures the gay man’s experience. This inspiring and empowering concert promises to instill each audience member with Pride in its truest form.
